by themselves are not offensive. it is offensive only when the user is intending offense. A stone is not a weapon until it is turned into one by a person. Throwing a stone into a lake --- is not using a weapon. Throwing that same stone at a person IS using a weapon. Can we determine when someone is using a word to injur someone? I believe we can, from the context and from the general tendencies of the person using them.

Also, it is notable that removing these "offensive words" does not decrease the feelings of hatred and intolerance. Removing these words only masks that hatred and intolerance. Removing the hatred and intolerance is much, much harder to do. The "PC police" are merely putting a band-aid on the cancer that is hatred and intolerance. Such a wound treated with a Band-aid would indeed look prettier ---for awhile. The eventual outcome of that treatment is terminal. Until we can treat the roots of hatred and intolerance, the outcome of the PC treatment is, likewise, terminal.
