I see that the rollout has been posted, but I haven't looked at ti yet, so I'll give it a try.

Tan is way down in the match, so a doubled gammon is worth some extra risk. 9/3 9/5*. Even if tan is hit he'll still have some winning chances due to his strong board. Most of the time tan doesn't get hit, and a substantial portion of those lead to gammons.

As for the "safe" play, it's not as safe as it seems since tan is often forced to leave a shot anyway, although I'd probably play it at other match scores. AtS I'm greedy.
