I believe that if you hit from the 8 after an opening split, often "down" is better than "split" with the non-hitting part of the roll. I always see that as an indication that the stripped 8 needs "help" from an additional builder. Here the builder to be brought down is 6 away from the slotted point, making hit and down quite clear.
