One well known advantage with a cli is that it enables the user to use the program creatively, sometimes finding uses the programmer didn't think of or wouldn't bother to implement.

Example of how I was able to utilize the cli in gnu.

I once wanted gnu to be able to give me all the cube action equites for a range of scores. This is quite valuable to learn how to adjust your cube actions in match situations.

So a programmer friend of mine made me a small python script which abled me to to specify a range of scores, and have gnu evaluate 2 ply the cube action for all the scores.
