I agree with you on 1 out of 3, not good news for one or even both of us.

1. It also looks like a next to me but my play is 13/7. It's a fairly big gain when it works and keeps your checker out of the way of the big stack on the midpoint (and thus in front of the stripped 8 point).


2. 13/8 looks good to me also. It has 54 blocked as a hitter and 65 duped as a hitter. Your gammon value at this score is diminished so hitting two is a no go for me and there's no need to freak out and try to clear the 17pt now.


3. You want to look to bring this position home. You shouldn't have any problem clearing the 17pt in the near future but in the distant future you'll have more problems clearing both the midpoint and the nine point if you make the nine point instead of the seven point. I'm sure you also win a few extra gammons because your men are now in the zone allowing you to use them to make the two point on rolls like 65 or 55 instead of removed from the zone. Bar point for me, 13/7 9/7.
