There are a couple of rules of thumb that point towards the hit. Blue has a stronger board with more checkers back. Generally one should attack a single checker. White also has another blot sitting around waiting to be picked up. Blue's deep inner-board points are of most value in an attacking game. White is also poised to make some good points if we don't take away half his roll.

On the other hand, Blue has a race lead right now, and hitting risks losing that lead. Blue does not have a lot of material up front to carry through an attack. The heavy midpoint wants to be unstacked. White's position is still undeveloped so Blue should have chances to hit a shot later. Hitting puts another checker deep and is very committal.

QF makes me think that the hit is right in some cases and not others, but I would not hit. 13/8, 13/8 24/23, and 13/7 8/7 are my plays. Attacking seems premature and I'd rather build up my assets. If White's checker were better positioned to escape permanently then I might consider hitting.
