Just consider two games

Right, that's what Bob was getting at too, I think. The Chicago Point poll presumes that the game that requires the most skill has the least luck. Is that necessarily so? In Chuck's example tic-tac-toe has no luck and requires minimal skill to play at a grandmaster level, while backgammon requires great skill and yet has a great amount of luck. Now back to the poll's games, poker, backgammon, and (duplicate) bridge. Isn't it possible that poker demands the most skill and yet also has the most luck?

It's also interesting to note that some commenters made a point of speaking of "duplicate" bridge, a format which presumably minimizes one (but not all) luck inputs. But what form of poker and backgammon competitions, then, is duplicate bridge to be compared to? Is luck a bigger factor when those games are played some ways than in others? Is it not also possible to similarly delimit competition in those games in ways that minimize the importance of luck?
