54S-63 and 43Z-64

Everything you said makes sense to me except one thing. I don't think that playing 24-18 is the same in the two diagrams. After 54S, you are leaving your blot under the stack of four on the eight point. After 43Z, you are confronting the blot on the nine. In my conception of the opening, it is fundamental to avoid splitting against the stack on the eight, but to want to split against the outfield blot. I would be much more likely to play 24-18 facing the latter rather than the former. It has been my understanding that this fundamental is the reason 54S-63H is best rather than X. Feel free to correct me if you see more than I do.
