They Laughed at my Backgame defense

I'm only going to address your question about whether XG can be trusted. I believe that these kinds of positions don't give the bots any particular trouble. In all your positions, you already have a 5-prime or a 6-prime straddling your bar, and this simplifies the position a lot. Furthermore in the first three positions your opponent has only 5 checkers back, and in the latter positions your opponent's front position has collapsed. A prototypical tough position for the bots is if all 15 checkers have been sent back, but none of these positions are close to that.
As for whether XG evaluations (as opposed to rollouts) can be trusted, I don't have enough experience to be sure. But in general, the more the position has already crystallized, the more likely it is that the evaluations will be correct. Amorphous positions where things could still go in many different directions are more likely to be difficult for the bots. I'm in the process of doing some long rollouts of such an amorphous position where it looks like GNU 2-ply rollouts and XG 3-ply rollouts are going to disagree sharply. Since I have a slow computer and I only extend these rollouts when I don't have any more pressing jobs to run, I'm not sure when they'll be complete, but I'll be sure to post here when they're ready.
