Nearly 30 years ago, I read something said by a well known international player in a backgammon mag. He said that slow play has driven more players away from the game than everything else combined.

BG isn't chess and it is meant to be played quickly, and yet in chess, a clock is mandatory !!!

What drives me away from BG is slow play and the concerns of lack of enforcement and inconsistant enforcement combined with the risk of having to start after midnight (Sat night/Sun morn) and then play til 2 AM or later and then have to start at 9:30 or 10 am on Sunday. All this having nothing to do with my own slow play, nor any opps' but being due to the slow play of two turtles who took 3 1/4 hours for their 11 pt match two rounds ago and also being due to the MOST UNNECESSARY wish of the director to have one more round of conso played before the LC starts on Sun morning.

"Fortunately there are lots of BG T's to play, and players have a choice which ones to play, and for me, if this means that I don't play unclocked events and that this greatly harms my chances to ever win another ABT Championship..so be it."
