I mean there are worse things in life than playing an occasional match against a slow player.

If the only effect of this was the person in question wasted an hour of his life, I might agree. The effect can be detrimental to a tournament as I'm sure you've read on here. There is no reason to let it happen when there's a great solution in place that also cleans up other aspects of the game.
