Neil stresses that the effect usually is detrimental to the tourney if it is a typical weekend event that has most of the play crammed (often unnecessarily) into Saturday.

When slow player meets slow player and one of them keeps winning things really can bottleneck very badly. I recall in the conso, finishing my match at 3:30pm (long weekend event) and the bracket was so bottlenecked that I didn't have an opponent until 1pm the next day..ie I was three matches ahead and two super slow players were holding up both the main and conso brackets.

I also recall back in the 80's slotting my match opening 51 and having my opp take over two minutes to decide how to play his replying 31, both hitting me and making his 5 pt and looking at both twice before deciding to make his 5 pt (BK time). The only reason this 7 pt match took only 2:45 was that I got pissed and cubed quickly at -4-3 and won a lucky blitz.
