Hear hear!

At the Nordic Open this year, I wasn't able to attend, but I saw that the programme listed SpeedGammon side events (SpeedGammon Jackpots). I asked about when those would be launched and made sure I visited the tournament venue at those days/evenings. Unfortunately they didn't materialize. Well, I got to see a few of the Denmark vs. World matches live, so it wasn't all that bad :-)

I tested an exiting format of speedGammon at a closed tourney in my club. I'm trying to make the final improvements and polish the format, and then convince my fellow tournament committee members in DBgF to allow me to run the a Danish SpeedGammon Championship using a similar format. It's basically a Swiss system of 4 point matches, with 3m+10s/move. But as tie-breaker (secondary score) we use the total remaining bank-time, ie. faster play = better adjustment for tie-breakers.

First of all, playing 4 point matches under speed-conditions is pure action from the get go. Secondly, used playing speed as part of the result, give players an incentive to play even faster than they are forced to by the time-controls in the individual matches and games. Of course winning is still much more important than playing fast, but playing fast can prove damn important as well, and you can track your secondary score (total bank time) during the tournament (with each Swiss round being planned using the score and time as input).

I'd very much like to hear your different ideas and experiences with SpeedGammon - both for side events at major tourneys, but also for dedicated speed tourneys!
