How I wish I had more time to rant in general

I direct a local club in Durham, North Carolina. The downside of clocks is that people who are not used to them feel rushed and play faster than they feel comfortable with. That can be overcome with practice. Clocks also take away from a social aspect of the game ... they can't chit-chat as much, because they have to constantly pay attention to their clock usage. To keep our tournaments moving along, I advise people that round 1 must be completed by 7:30 PM, round 2 by 8:30 PM etc. (Note: We play 5 point matches ... clock usage in all matches might permit us to play 7 point matches.) Then I harrass the slowpokes and threatened that the final round must be played with a clock if semifinals are not completed in time. I also insist that a Meyer Dice Tube be used if one of the players owns one. It does speed up play. Our club's web site is: http://home.roadrunner.com/~kenlarsen/backgammonclub.htm
