+1, and I am happy to see that I was not the only one to find that article embarrassingly bad, especially for someone labelled as an expert on the matter.

The only valid point he makes about the Elo system is the incentive for overrated people to stall. But this has been pretty well handled by the Glicko extension of the Elo rating system (which is perfectly compatible with the "FIBS" sqrt(n) adjustement for backgammon).
