In Response To: Disagree with Stick's Book Review (Stanley E. Richards)

Stick and many backgammon players relish in the explanation of challenging positions. The thorough evaluation of difficult checker/cube decisions gives them a perception of how to understand the essence of backgammon.

I seek to understand the simple concepts of backgammon and to know when to apply which simple concept.

Please explain the difference between these two approaches?

I'll give you one difference. The world class player is not only trying to learn how and when to apply concepts by looking at challenging positions; he is also trying to develop new concepts and new ways to look at things when the existing methods don't quite seem to fully explain the situation.
