Disagree with Stick's Book Review

I was a new backgammon player when I read Backgammon for Serious Players. I truly enjoyed the match analysis. I remember excitedly reading the match which taught the proper approach to a backgame defense. Previously, I had faced these situations without a clue. Thus, it was thrilling to experience the proper technique against a backgame defense. I kept saying to myself, "Robertie, you are so smart." Let's be perfectly clear. There is nothing wrong with Stick's approach to learning backgammon. In fact, probably most top players use a "chess-like" thorough approach. Tomorrow, I will better explain "chess-like" vs. my basic building blocks approach. Rich has requested such clarification.
Of course, I do not know all backgammon world class players and do not know how they became so good. Thus, I cannot give you an example of anybody who shunned the “chess-like” approach. Nor, do I suggest that this approach is flawed. Nevertheless, I know that one can become a world class player by only focusing on backgammon basics. If you accept XG’s definition of a 5.0 as world class, I could become world class. I played at a 5.9 over my last 100 matches and know I can play better. I play too many matches without focus. Also, I play much less than I use to. If I maintain consistent focus and play more often, I will improve to world class.
