I always liked that I saw my opponent shuffling checkers on his turn. I think it is a good feature. And unlikke live backgammon, they can't make an illegal play, so you don't have to worry about them taking 5 4s or stuff like that.
I switched servers once that didn't show the shuffling and found it really disconcerting. When they were taking a long time, I never knew why. Seeing the shuffle often give good insight into they opponent's style of thinking, and can help you deduce his skill level.
But clocks (Bronstein?) should be used on all on-line servers.
