Well, I don't agree.

Good, some disagreement ;- not everyone thinks one way of counting is "inherently flawed."

First of all, better for what purpose?

Do you have a link to the argument (Zare's) that significantly different but equal styles can lead to different percentages of forced moves?

How about a link to the argument (anyone's?) that worse play leads to more forced and/or inconsequential moves? I don't know if that's true, but if it is, counting such moves would tend to deflate the error rates of lesser players.

I wonder whether the ratio of Snowie:Gnubg ER is the same for both, say, players with Snowie ER 3.0 and Snowie ER 8.0.
