This is really silly. Why would you question why the inventor of a product is a strong proponent of the product, and would attempt to respond to complaints or perceived shortcomings? What else would you expect them to do?

Brett is right that numerous ills can be corrected by ensuring that people are aware of and follow documented procedure, and by improving that documented procedure when irregularities become apparent. When someone rolls from a cup on the wrong side of the board, you tell them to roll over. When someone doesn't shake their dice or jiggles them side to side and then rolls, you tell them to shake vigorously up and down. If at a critical juncture in the match someone needs a 6, fails to shake and rolls a 6 out of the cup from a height of 1 mm above the playing surface, what are you going to do? And how is that any different from someone who at a critical juncture "accidentally" tips the dice tube over after getting a bad number?

No method or mechanism is perfect.

Use or non-use of a dice tube really comes down to personal preference. Some love it, some hate it, and we need to respect that these are just personal opinions.

I love the tube, but agree that as long as a substantial number of honest, respected people have a strong preference for non-use of tubes and baffle boxes, that it is best to not generally require use of them unless both players agree. However, accommodation should be made for the elderly, etc. And of course the director needs no reason to require the use of such a device in any specific matches he deems appropriate - just like he may require a clock be used for any specific match in a "clocks by mutual agreement" event.
