So here we are. To see instantly the heart of darkness, is the sign of a master. But let us look at the pattern. #1 and #3 are well defined with clear pattern. For me, this positions are easy to recognize as comparable positions, with a different white anchor.
For #3, Robertie wrotes: "As humans, we have a characteristic weakness in handling problems with multiples choices: we gravitate immediatly to solutions which lie at the extreme ends of the scale - i. e., those which either solve the problem or ignore the problem. Plays which only partially solve the problem seem unclear and wishy-washy, so we tend to give them short shift. However, somewhere in the set of middling plays may rest one with the best risk-reward combination - another argument for looking at all reasonable plays in a tough position. ... In effect, 13/6 bus Black a lot of time at a very cheap price. With this patient little play, Black can solve his strategic problem indirectly. ..."
In #2 there is even more wood to overlook the tree. Do you now understand a little better, what people see, when they look at positions like this one?
