Note that all these differences of opinion underline my point that the choice of measure is a matter of taste rather than of science.

Unless, of course, the player actually plays the 2nd best play (or worse)? I've certainly done that before. Usually this happens because I'm playing quickly and carelessly and I overlook an obvious hit, but occasionally I see all the options but just completely misunderstand the position.
