The main purpose of the rods is to slow down the progress of the dice down the tube, so that the flip can be completed before the dice settle on the bottom surface, therefore eliminating the possibility of dice-cheating.

The tubes have removable end-caps, which allow any dice to be inserted into the tube, and allows for dice-switching.
