Jets-OT

I watched the film several times. It was subtle, not at all blatant; however, as the Jets and the coach have admitted and apologized for the act then I assume it was intentional.
I remember on an NFL telecast long ago -- probably a Monday Night Football game -- the announcers giving the recently departed Dandy Don Meredith grief over such an act. He was giving it the aw-shucks routine and then they showed the film (from a number of years prior). There was Don on the sidelines in his Cowboy uniform as some opponent streaked down the sideline. Don took a step forward and stuck his foot out onto the field of play in an unsuccessful attempt to trip the runner. They all got a great laugh out of it.
Probably the most famous such play was in the 1954 Cotton Bowl -- Rice vs. Alabama. Rice had a great running back named Dickie Maegle who was streaking down the Alabama sideline toward a touchdown. An Alabama player, Tommy Lewis, jumped out onto the field and tackled Maegle on the 42 yard line. I saw the player interviewed years later and he said it was just "one of those impulsive things" -- he said "if I'd have planned to do it I would have at least put my helmet on". Maegle was awarded a touchdown. Rice beat Alabama 28-6.
