From my notes, I have Hit & Split (24/21, 6/2*) as the proper 43 reply anytime opponent splits with an ace on the opening roll (41S, 51S, or 21S).

While I don't have the rollouts, I think the main reason is the power of the super-builder on the 9 point. From the 9-point, almost all rolls make a good offensive point next turn. Lacking anything particularly constructive to do with 43, you might as well mix things up tactically.
