White would gladly hop out with a 61 or 64 even if he is behind in the race, because the blot will be under increasing pressure inside black's pen. Otherewise the race is not so hopeless. White's only advantage will be a better board. In my opinion he should build while waiting for a 6 or 1. I repeat 61 is not a bad number for white. White is not staying back stubbornly because of a small racing lag. If not in a hurry and count the position right (which happens rarely) I would choose this play. Without the 3 point here, I am not sure I would take Black's double.
