As always, it's the money.
The poker "Pocket Cam" enabled a popular TV format, which in turn brought money to the game. Money then attracted the players, including many top level backgammon players. Money also brought the amateurs, who then started to win some tournaments, which further popularized the game and brought in more players and more money. Repeat.
Once backgammon finds a cable outlet in the U.S. for the backgammon broadcasts, things will pick up in the U.S.
Andy: any progress? I note that you are broadcasting in Europe and Canada.
Chiva: any plans to produce a television series for your tourneys?
