How can one train himself to "see" those hits against the flow of the game?

In your example, I don't think the hit is against the flow of the game so I'll ignore that part of your question. To train oneself to see such plays, follow my motto: With big boardage, seek big blottage. That is, if you strongly outboard your opponent, deliberately look for plays that create as many blots for yourself as possible. Creating blots gratuitously is something many of us have trained ourselves not to do, but you have to unlearn this habit when the position calls for it. The single most important indicator that you may want to play super-purely or super-aggressively is a strong board for yourself and a weak board for your opponent. (Other Magriel safe/bold criteria are also relevant, but for the really wild plays I think big boardage (Wiggins's term) is the most important.)

As I've mentioned before on this forum, this motto is akin to the claim of one grandmaster, famed for his attacking play, that the first thing he would do in a position would be to examine all the ways he could sacrifice his pieces. This is the opposite of the patzer's way of thinking, which is to fearfully check to make sure no piece is en prise.
