Speed backgammon as a solution for casting out online bot help?

I do not play on line for money unless I know and trust the person I am playing. (Most backgammon players I know I don't trust, so I don't play much for money on line!)
I would be much more inclined to play speed backgammon for money as it would greatly reduce the ability to cheat.
One problem I have is that while I like the idea of having a very short period of time to make checker plays, I wish there was a way to allow more time for cube decisions. It really does take a lot longer to calculate take points, gammon values, and analyze the position over the board to make a reasonable cube decision than it does to come up with the best checker play (most of the time).
Even live, with speed gammon, I would love to see a way to allot more time for cube decisions...I'm not sure how that could be done without being too complicated.
