I had six copies of the book with me when I left home Nov 18 on a random adventure that took me to New York for two days, Iceland for two days, England for a few weeks, Geneva for a day and Meribel, France for five days. Sold out all six copies along the way.
What did I do in England? I posed and answered the following question that seems to stump all the British punters: "If you have some combination of the following British coins -- one penny, two pence, five pence, ten pence, twenty pence and fifty pence -- what is the most change you can have without being to make change for a pound?" Equivalent question: What is the most US currrency you can have without being able to make change for a hundred?
By the way, if you have US coins, what is the most change you can have without being able to make change for a dollar? I have known the answer to this question for more than 45 years, and I will never forget the evening when I emptied my pocket and noticed that I randomly had this max amount of change without being able to make change for a dollar. It was truly one of the most shocking, exciting and interesting experiences of my entire life, on a par with winning a backgammon tournament!! Has it ever randomly happened to you?
My sister sent five copies to my very good friend Racquetball Rich, who lost two backgammons while playing with a PR of 1.7 in his semifinal superjackpot loss to Joe Russell last month in Vegas. If I am lucky, Backgammoned Rich will give me the books in NJ. By the way, does anyone know the meaning of the word "gammon" in everyday British usage?
When John Lennon on his first trip to the USA was asked by a dimwit American reporter, "How did you find America?" John shot back, "Turn left at Greenland." I'll be taking a slightly different route back to the USA Monday. I have to turn left at Iceland.
