I don't think it is good for team cohesion if most of the team live like college students, but a few top players are live like rock stars and get paid big money just for their autographs. Not all inequalities can be righted, nor should they be, but I believe letting the top kids get endorsements and accept big-ticket gifts creates an inequality among the team members that's not a good idea when we're talking about kids in college.

When I played high school tennis (badly, BTW, but they needed subs) there was one superstar player who always won first singles for us. She was also wealthy enough to play indoors all winter with good players at an exclusive club. None of us resented her, but we might have if she'd been doing endorsements or otherwise capitalizing on how good she was. She didn't do stuff like that, or bend rules, and in general acted as a team player. I hope she still is playing somewhere!
