Welcome back, Matt!
...what's the appropriate Nactation for 11 played 24/23, 6/5(3) ??
Some variant of e?(I would prefer to explain this with a diagram, but there is currently a problem with viewing diagrams on the forum.)
One option is to apply assumption. 6/5(2) is typically obvious, and the third 6/5 ace is the Floating spare. 8/7 6/5(3) is F (keeps the most points), and 24/23 5(3) is f.
[Depending upon how much better 24/23 6/5(3) is than 8/7 6/5(3) in a position, you might justify applying more aggressive assumption and call the 24/23 6/5(3) play capital F, but it doesn't really cost anything to use f.]
Most doublet plays can be handled at least that easily with some sort of assumption, but for argument's sake let's pretend this play can't:
For doublets, each of the BEACON letters are subdivided into 2:2 ratio (regular) and 3:1 ratio (underlined). 24/23 6/5(3) is therefore in the (underlined) E subfamily. To decide which member, apply the standard hit/most/6 rule. There is no hit, so you go on to "most" (points). Of legal 3:1 plays, Bar/24 6/5(3) makes the most points, so that play gets the capital E.
The purpose of the hit/most/6 rule is to cause the best play of a family (or subfamily) to be the capital letter most of the time. You'll spot in an instant with practice.
