Memory speed...Xavier..will any speed be gained for XG2 using memory speed 2000 rather than 1600?

By all means go for the stage 4 cooling. Their higher stages cool the chip set (do we need that for 24/7?...Xavier..please advise) and the video card (GPU) which we most definately don't need.

Anyhow, XG2 allows for 2MB cache and this does speed things up a bit but all one needs is 6 MB DDR3 RAM rather than 4 MB RAM. Anything more is overkill and from what I've read, going all the way to 12 MB makes overclocking more of a challange.

The i7-970 is Intel's somewhat discounted hexacore (i-7 980X and soon above). These are all basically the same chip but the best of the production lot (top several percent are Xeon server chips) while the bottom half may be 970's. But these are still awesome chip.

The difference between a 970 and a 980X for overclocking is that the multiplier is locked for the non X chips (which cost less) so one has to also consider memory timing when overclocking. This means that the OCer has to be more careful and from what I've read and seen, there may be more options with 2000 speed rather than 1600.That being said, most of us here would be very please to spend 3K max and have 6 cores HT running 4-4.2 GHz per Ken's specs.

Ken..time to go shopping isn't it? we won't see octocores for a year or so.

Ken...LOL .. u forgot to include the free T-shirt
