In your range the digitalstormmachine will be fine. Xeon machines will be more expensive. But a workmate (he's a geek and owns a 10 terabyte storage server for his films ) suggested to build a machine with a dualcpu server board and the midprize xeon hexacore. Then the dozen engine has already arrived. If there is any interest i will ask him to fiddle a bit to look for guessing a prize. The question is, will this machine faster then an overclocked core i7.
