Let's see if I remember my Magriel ... 3 back vs 2, behind in the race, and equal home boards, that calls for a bold play, not a passive one. Therefore, I would rule out bar/22 9/8 as being too passive. I know putting three checkers on my opponent's ace point is bad, so I would certainly move bar/22 and look for an ace. Playing bold seems to indicate 8/7, but that doesn't really do much for my forward position. I think a far better bold play with the ace is 6/5, which slots the five point and leaves any 1's or 2's as return shots. That's 20 return shots, but several of these would have been otherwise positive numbers for Stick anyway (namely 6-1, 3-1 and 4-2). Furthermore, when the five point is not hit, we're a favorite to cover next turn and establish a permanent asset. I'm not entirely positive that bar/22 6/5 is the best play, but it's one that hasn't been considered by anyone, and it's my vote.
