Kleinman deals with a very similar get-off-the-gammon position except that in Kleinman's position, the underdog's ace point is already occupied. In Kleinman's position, putting the checkers on the 10pt and 9pt is best; I think the best way to "explain" this is not to try to appeal to a general principle but to just count out your bad rolls.
Here our ace point is open which is important. It's important enough that it's worth considering using one of the 2's to play 3/1. But that sort of play is usually only right when we need to ensure that we bear off next turn.
My guess is that 11/7 10/6 and 12/6 10/8 are very close and that it's not worth bothering about the difference too much. I'll play
