Backgammon Theft -- I Forgot to Mention Earlier

Having let several friends borrow the board I am guilty of leaving it open on a table -- though this was Sunday and there was plenty of room. And, yes, I checked with all of my friends who had used the board, none had the dice.
I am amazed how many attend backgammon tournaments without bringing boards. I often hear people say it makes travel more difficult; sorry, doesn't pass muster with me. I'm from Texas, I have a long trip (by air) to every tournament I attend. I take a board to every tournament -- and not a small board (either the Taki or the Aries).
I agree with Jason that personal belongings should be clearly marked. My clock was returned to the tourney staff -- by someone thinking they were doing a good deed, and I can understand/appreciate the act.
Boards should not be left open for extended periods of time; however, a closed board is much easier to steal in its entirety -- and we know that occurred several times in the last few years. Between matches (short time periods) and at short breaks within a match it is not feasible to put the board, the dice, the cube, and the clock away. I've heard other instances of people lifting dice, I'll be much more careful in the future. Unfortunate that we have to be so vigilant.
