In Response To: Response to Fort Lauderdale and the "criticism" (Chiva Tafazzoli)

1. Anyone who thinks you are an "intruder" because you are not an American is being extremely unfair...we need all the directors we can get and all the tournaments we can get. I don't care if the tournament is run by Martians if it's run well, and if I don't like it, I won't criticize it...I just won't go. 2. Having the boards at the event was wonderful. It's a real problem for me to travel with a board, especially now that airlines are charging even for carry-on luggage. Your boards are beautiful. 3. Having clocks on every match is fantastic...I never had to wait for my match.

I PROMISE YOU that if you did everything possible to run a "perfect" tournament you would have a dozen people who didn't like something and would want something changed. There is something at EVERY tournament I go to that has at least one thing I would do differently...the difference is I don't complain--unless there is something that is totally unfair or dishonest. You simply can't please everyone.

I have had the opportunity to run or be a partner in running major tournaments, and I wouldn't take the job EVEN IF there was a good profit. Its a tremendous amount of hard work, for little or no thanks, and you have to listen to a lot of crap from people who simply enjoy complaining.

Yes, there are some tournaments I don't like, and even a director or two I don't like, and I can vote with my feet. Having said that, I WILL NOT be a party to a boycott or attempt to keep others from going to those tournaments, as that hurts the game, and if everyone did that, there would be a boycott of every tournament.

Bottom line: Chiva...THANK YOU FOR COMING TO THE U.S. AND OFFERING US MORE TOURNAMENTS. Ignore the few people who like to complain and rant, and know that most of us really appreciate what you do for the game overall.

For those of you who don't know it, Chiva was personally very instrumental in the founding of the USBGF. He is working to grow the game internationally. We all need to work together and support each other, REGARDLESS of country.
