Back before Internet, smartphones, etc. you could sometimes find a profitable arbitrage opportunity in Vegas simply by walking across the street. Mind you, this typically involved visiting at least one of the smaller books where the max bet was too low to make it really worth anyone's while, but still, I knew folks who used to grind out a small-time living doing this sort of thing. We have an unprecedented level of pricing transparency today (not just in sports betting, either) which I suspect the younger generation sort of takes for granted.
