I should have added that having a single checker back is a consideration. If we put the checker on the 11 on the 24, 8/7 6/1* becomes a play to consider - the race is not favorable anymore, the loss of having another checker send back is much more limited, and the priming threat if you leave your opponent alone is more significant.
