If your opp is clearly violating the rules and it bothers you, ask him to stop, as you did. Once he continues, call over the director or at least a staff member.

And to the intermediates and beginners here, if you aren't sure of a rule and think that it matters, call the director. If your opp is being a completely rude jerk, tell him to behave, and if not, call over the director. etc etc etc.
