Backgammon Books - Promoting Backgammon

Which brings up my view on the USBGF. Their mandate is the promotion of Backgammon but they require people to pay for the information. This in itself excludes those people who would rather put a roof over their head and food on the table than to spend 10 bucks (example) on every possible BG site on the net looking for memberships.
I personally believe that the USBGF should become a free site (Accept donations), so they can promote backgammon to a much wider audience/player base. This may not be doable unless some wealthy benefactors who truly believe that "promoting and growth of backgammon" is truly the noble goal that they are professing.
I think the USBGF (who I do not speak for here) would probably agree with this completely. So as you say, just as soon as the wealthy benefactor, or deep pocketed corporate sponsor writes the check to create the USBGF Endowment, membership can be free to all. If you know such a check writer, please send them our way - the spelling is "US Backgammon Federation". They can also set up a trust fund for a later time when they won't need the income any more. Until then, there are actual expenses of running a professional not-for-profit organization where (believe it or not) time, materials and professional services, etc. is not always donated.
While I do appreciate the reality that many people live in poverty and paycheck to paycheck, the other reality is that many people also manage to find money for a night out at the bar, cigarettes, flat screen televisions and gas for their SUV. Then they have no money to buy a book or support important efforts in their community. People sometimes do have choices.
Also, backgammon is played and enjoyed by millions of people world wide who never read books. I don't think books are necessary for the game to be popularized. Books are only necessary for people who already love the game to improve. Perhaps people can donate backgammon books to their local public library.
