I suppose you played 6/1 6/4* and got dinged for it? As Stick mentions, the combination of a race lead and potential blitz means that you can cash before the roll. You also likely will have a cash after the exchange, provided nothing bad happens. 6/4* 6/1 leaves 12 shots from the bar, 18/16 6/1* only 8. With an upcoming cube turn, that difference is big. In this type of situations you'd also need to consider whether the more risky play would often make you a lot Too Good, but that does not appear to be the case.

If you look at the same position after cubing, you will find that 6/4* 6/1 is best, although not by a tremendous amount.
