OK Chiva, from your last post, what you suggest is actually just introducing 1/2 and 1/4 entries, just like the NO has been used for years.

Only difference, you'd use those entries to effectively remove the other flights. Forcing the intermediates to play Championship players from round 2 or 3.

It would give you more entries in the Champ flight, BUT I'm pretty sure that you'd see fewer beginners at your tourney, and a lower number of players in total.

However, adding 1/2 and 1/4 entries, would make it OK to cut down on the number of alternative divisions. You could go with 2 divisions instead of 3, or 3 instead of 4, etc. Because you could allow a greater gap between the divisions.
