Updates from live events - An opinon

I think the idea is excellent and the solution isn't that difficult. Michael came up with a good suggestion. Suggestions and ideas are great, but what it takes to make things happen is usually one person who is willing to take the bull by the horns and implement the idea.

This is not brain surgery. The USBGF has a web site. A place can be designated on that web site to post updates. Updates are simple...someone at the tournament needs to take a picture of the draw sheets with their phone or digital camera and upload it to the site with a time-stamp. This is just one way it can be done, and once everyone knows where to go to see the information people will get in the habit of going there during live events.

This is just one way it could happen, but in order to happen, SOMEONE needs to set it up; someone needs to be designated at each tournament to do the update.

What is needed is a person to follow through with the idea and see that it gets done.

In my many years working in many organizations of many kinds I have heard many great ideas that never get implemented. I have also seen many that have, and the only difference is one person making it his personal business to see that it gets done.

Michal--if you really want to see this happen, make it happen. Contact the USBGF or the folks at GammonZone, or do it right here on BGO. Figure out how to get and upload the information and how to designate someone and get it done.

I will not be the one to get it done because, as much as I like the idea, I am already spending all my spare time on other projects that are closer to my heart--like getting backgammon clubs and teams going at high schools and colleges and giving free lessons and coaching to the students. This is something I thought was a good idea, and in addition to making suggestions, I am simply out there doing it. I'm not bragging, I'm just saying that a good idea is excellent, but it needs to be followed up with action or nothing will come of it.
