One division only?

Like all ideas, there are plusses and minuses. Take a look at the Masters events at most tournaments. Anyone can enter, but how many intermediates do you see entering? Very few, because their odds of winning are terrible. Even at a reduced fee, the odds are terrible.
I am a decent golfer, but would I pay to compete in a PGA tournament and shoot in the high 80's and get knocked out the first round?
I might if they gave me 15 strokes. I might also play in more masters events if I could play against Giants with a 5-0 lead handicap in a match to 13--I think that would make the odds pretty close to even for me.
I also wouldn't like to see a tournament with one division because it would take a week or two to finish the event.
And lastly, at the end of the day there would be 1 winner and 200 losers. I like the fact that with 3 divisions there can be 3 winners, and 3 who take second, and a bunch of semi-finalists and consolation and last chance winners.
We need more people to walk away with at least their entry fees and a trophy to show for their time and expense and efforts, not less.
