One division only?

I have always recommended that we simply reduce the first, second place and 1st consolation prize money by enough so that the losers in the quarters (4 players) get their entry fee back. I really don't think the winners will even notice the difference in the prize money and they will still be very happy they won. And 4 more people go away happy at every tournament. Keep in mind that many of these winners who make a little less when they win are also likely to get knocked out in the quarters of other tournaments, and they will have been happy to get some of their money back. Also, there is the side pool which further compensates just the winners.
One way to demonstrate that our current structure rewards the top winners too much is the amount of hedging that goes on in the money rounds. My recommendation would eliminate a lot of this hedging. Again, the option of hedging or not gives additional advantage to the better players who already have the great advantage of playing inferior players in a non-handicapped event.
We need to make more people happy. If we do, more people will come, and the net result is that the winners will end up making even more! That is the best argument for flattening out the prize money.
