Not so sure about that, Pat.

There are travel expenses, airfare, shuttle, hotel, food, entry fee, etc. And on top of performing skill-wise, you have to ne lucky enough to win a tournament. This fact should be rewarded in a manner to cover your expenses + x to bring back home.

I think paying 5 prizes in a small field (around 32), 7 prizes in a medium field (64) and 10 prizes in a large field (+128) is fine enough.
