Are the recorded matches only available in the .xg format ?

All of the matches are provided both in XG format and in Standard Text format so those that do not have XG can run their own analysis.

I think wrt promoting the game, not making live-streaming free and available for all including not yet bg-playing people is a dubious decision.

People who are not playing backgammon surely have no interest in watching a grainy video of people they've never heard of moving checkers around in a manner that they do not understand. We're not talking about a "how to play backgammon video" here. Surely this particular benefit is something of value only for people who are actually true enthusiasts of the game.

So I ask - dubious for who and why? Dubious for those players unwilling to fork over $15 to support the not-for-profit organization that is putting in the time, effort, resources and hard cash to make all these benefits possible? If all things of potential benefit to the backgammon community were made available for free, how would expenses be paid? This seems no different than those who feel it would be best for the backgammon community if benevolent directors would run top quality events at decent venues while charging no rakes. Of course it would be best. And it would also be best if Santa Claus really brought the presents rather than us having to go out and devote time and money to buy them. But we all have to live in the real world. Without people contributing to expenses at tournaments and staying at the perhaps slightly more expensive hotel hosting the event, there would be no directors and there would be no tournaments. Without finding ways to attract paying members, the USBGF will not be around for very long to provide or promote anything. That's what would be dubious. We need contributions from the true believers in backgammon if we are to be able to invest what is necessary to attract and cultivate the vast majority of people who do not yet know.

The USBGF's biggest problem right now is attracting volunteers to help accomplish things while keeping expenses down. Volunteers that not only say they'll help, but who actually find the time to do so. Yet there is no shortage of people who feel that the world would be a better place if Santa's magic elves would just do all of this stuff for the common good and give it away for free.

Get involved, let's make it happen together: http://usbgf.org/about-us/volunteers-needed/
