S or Z = 23/21 13/10, U = 23/18

Nack: My notes are inserted in red. Stick, you know most of this, so my comments are mostly targeted for the greater readership.

I'm glad you mentioned this as I was confused where your U kick was coming from in all these examples. For an opening 51 I would have, til now, used R of course. In the first of your two examples above I would have chosen:

For the first [left-hand] example:

@ = 23/21 13/10 [@, for anchor, is adequate in this position, by assumption. The down default applies only to H (and K), by the way. Another option you might consider here is 0 (for 10pt); a numeral is not as snappy as a symbol but it has the advantage of making a stronger assumption (the unstated deuce 23/21 is more obvious than the unstated trey 13/10). Sheepishly, I have to admit that in my haste to finally get out of the house this morning I captioned the first play in my fifth diagram (repeated as the left-hand diagram in your response post) as S when it is supposed to be Z (as now corrected in my left-hand diagram of this post), not that anyone would play the non-anchoring whopper of 21/18 13/11.]

r = 23/18 [As Stick said, until now, r was acceptable. U always worked.]

R = 21/16 [Yes.]

And for the second [right-hand] example:

B = 23/21 13/10 [Not technically correct, even with assumption. You're probably safe enough with B here (as in, "gee, B is illegal but what else could he have meant?") because there is no legal 3 to play within the outer board. If there were a checker on the 11pt or 10pt then S or Z would (still) mean 24/22 13/10, but B could only mean whichever of 24/22 11/8 or 24/22 10/7 is legal, no matter how big an error. For more clarity on the use of B, read the second paragraph under the "Blue to play 41S" diagram here.]

R = 23/18 [...until now, that is, as reinforced by the comment below. From now on, U.]

Nack

I'll mentally note that U/R no longer overlap.
